Top 5 Upcoming Smartphones of 2014
The current smartphone specs are already quite great, but if you feel they are not enough for you here are a list of Top 5 Upcoming Smartphones of 2014 which you can expect within next couple of months.
5. Moto X2
Moto X2 is the successor of Moto X, and this is going to be the first major release after Lenovo acquisition of Motorola. Although I think Motorola started working on it before the acquisition but this phone will provide us an idea what changes Lenovo made to Motorola’s internal structure and it’s designer groups.
Like Moto X we are not Moto X2 to have very high-end spec, instead I think they will even more concentrate on user experience and software feature (See also Top 5 Most Underpriced Tech). They will probably extend some of it’s flagship feature such as Always listening and wrist twist to start camera to the next level. Probably they will upgrade the display to 1080p and the camera to 13MP sensor in Moto X2. I don’t think there will be any change in display size, as their 4.5 inch form factor is easy to use and fits in hand (Best for one handed operation). We are expecting Moto X2 to be announced in the month September-October. Due to it’s spec it’s way down in the list, but it’s user experience puts it in our Top 5 Upcoming Smartphones list.
4. Sony Xperia Z2
Next is the Sony’s Flagship Xperia Z series successor Sony Xperia Z2. This phone has already been introduced in MWC, Barcelona and this will be released on 1st April 2014. Xperia Z2 extends the hardware and software capability of Xperia Z1 by maintaining all the goodies. This phone comes with IP57 Dust and water-resistant certification. Like Xperia Z1, Z2 also comes with 20MP camera shooter which now enters the league of 4K shooter. 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 chipset enables this phone to shoot in 4K. You can experience 4K videos on it’s 5.2 inch full HD display. It has 3GB RAM and internal memory option of 16GB and 32GB. Users will also have ability to expand it’s memory upto 64GB via microSD card. The phone is quite bulky (168 grams) compared to other flagships from Samsung, and LG.
3. Samsung Galaxy S5
3rd most anticipated upcoming smartphone of 2014 is Samsung Galaxy S5 which was announced in MWC in Samsung Unpacked event. Samsung continues it’s trends of Galaxy S series in this smartphone. It has a 2.5Ghz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 5.1 inch Full HD display. In terms of performance it’s quite similar to Nexus 5 and Galaxy Note 3 (may be a bit better performance), but new back design, and inbuilt heart-rate sensor blows mind of the users. Like iPhone 5 it also comes with a fingerprint sensor which is fitted within the physical home button provides an extra layer of security. 16MP camera takes good photos. Galaxy S5 is one of the most anticipated upcoming smartphone in the world because of the success of Galaxy S2, S3, and S4. Galaxy S5 will be available from the mid of April.
2. New HTC One M8
When it comes to HTC only thing comes in mind is build quality and design, HTC one v2 or HTC M8 is not exception of that. Due to innovation, design and build quality HTC M8 ranks second in our Upcoming Smartphones of 2014 list. Current leaks show that HTC M8 will have two cameras at the rear and one at front, it’s still unclear why they used two cameras. Overall design of M8 is the extension of predecessor HTC M7 (HTC one) and most of the design elements are the same. Same anodised Aluminium will be used for it’’s unibody design, two boom speakers will be in this upcoming phone, though there are a little bit of change in placement of Top and bottom speakers (slightly asymmetric to fit camera and other sensors at top right side). HTC will announce this phone on March 25, and it’s almost sure that this is going to be a high end phone as HTC always does.
1. Oppo Find 7
Unexpected but true: Oppo Find 7 Tops the countdown of Upcoming smartphones of 2014. Oppo is a chinese brand which is known for it’s aggressive pricing, creativity, design and high end hardware. Oppo entered US market with it’s flagship Find 5 which blew everyone’s mind due to it’s spec and price. Infact Oppo Find 5 was the first smartphone to use a 1080p display. Oppo Find 7 continues this trend in terms of hardware. Find 7 will have a 5.5 inch 2560×1440 IPS display (538ppi), which will top the display resolution in known upcoming phones sphere. Superfast Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB RAM, Micro SD card support, user accessible 4000mAh battery. There are also news (leaks) that Find 7 will have a 50 MP camera (you heard right FIFTY Megapixel).
In almost every aspect Oppo tries to top the spec war, and no upcoming smartphone is near Oppo 7 to compete with it in terms of Spec. But the software section of Oppo is a bit weak, and you will not have hefty features like Galaxy series and Motorola smartphones.
